The late Sylvia Dunstan was a gifted poet, and I have been drawn to set her texts on numerous occasions. As I have previously posted, for a number of years I composed an annual Christmas carol (or anthem), for which I was determined to incorporate the text “gloria in excelsis deo” (just as my yearly Easter carol required an “alleluia” or two: see This Our Joy and This Our Feast). It was with great excitement that I discovered this text, with its glorious imagery… and its refrain of “gloria in excelsis deo”! The SATB anthem with piano accompaniment, as well as the chamber ensemble arrangement heard on the recording, can be purchased at giamusic.com.

It is such a lovely thing
How kind of you to say so, Jan.
Am learning it with a small choral group, Jubilate Novum, in Burlington, WI for a Christmas concert in December. It has been running through me ever since Monday evening. Our director thinks it “gorgeous.”
Wonderful!
transcendent, truly transcendent. Finding musically sophisticated devotional music that is easily projected by an average church choir is not easy. Bob Moore’s compositions allow “folk” and professionals, to praise.
Thank you, sir.
I was hoping to do this song with my girls chorus. Do you have it available for SA or SSA?
I have not been monitoring this account. If you are still interested, I could accommodate you. Contact me at bobmooremusic@gmail.com
